Dog Was Abandoned Because of ‘Mouth’ in Her Ear
Dogs are cute, right? You probably don’t need convincing of that. Even when my dog has pissed on the floor, or torn his own bed to shreds, or tried to eat a dead bird off the street, he’s still unbelievably cute. Now imagine how cute dogs are, and then add an extra ear, filled with teeth and salivating. That’s Toad, a dog handed in to an animal welfare shelter in Oklahoma. Heather Hernandez, Toad’s owner, said: “Immediately we recognised that she was very different to most dogs. “She was initially showing lots of aggression but once she and I got together, that all disappeared.” Admittedly, I’d be pretty angry if…

Video Shows Fisherman Rescuing Humpback Whale Trapped In Fishing Nets
Footage has emerged that shows the moment an eel fisherman went above and beyond to save the life of a humpback whale. The fisherman, known only as Sam, dives onto the back of the gigantic sea creature and cuts it free from a load of fishing line that it had become entangled in. It’s stirring stuff, trust me. Sam and his crew were returning from their commercial fishing trip off the coast of California when they spotted the huge cetacean having what can only be described as a shocker. Sam’s friend and co-worker Nicholas, who shot the dramatic footage, said: “We were coming in from fishing and there was a white…

Dog’s Family Was Having A Baby — So They Dropped Him At The Shelter
A couple weeks ago, Olena Kagui was scrolling through Facebook on the subway when she saw something that made her finger freeze on the screen. There was a post about a pit bull with wide, sad-looking eyes, who was going to be euthanized at a shelter in Brooklyn, New York. “I normally scroll past, because it makes me sad that I can’t rescue all the dogs in need, but something about his face caught my attention,” Kagui told The Dodo. The post described the pit bull, named Smiley, as a “friendly and outgoing” dog who was house-trained and loved to play with squeaky toys. The only reason he’d been taken…

WWF Court Order Approved To Save West Coast Rock Lobsters
The Western Cape High Court has ruled in favour of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) petition to reduce the total allowable catch of West Coast rock lobster. The court stated that last season’s Total Allowable Catch (TAC) of 1 924.08 tons was “unsustainably high” and is not aligned with the Constitution, the National Environmental Management Atc and the Marine Living Resource Act. After the plight to bring the unsustainable catching of West Coast rock lobster to the attention of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF), the WWF has made a positive stride in ensuring the conservation of these crustaceans and possibly save them from extinction. The High Court…

Raven Looking For A Quick Bite Gets Stuck In Someone’s Plastic
The raven had gotten himself into a very uncomfortable — and dangerous — situation. A plastic lid from a frozen drink had become lodged around his neck and mouth, and he couldn’t seem to get it off himself. “Ravens are scavengers, so I imagine he was rummaging for a bite to eat, and whatever it was was near the hole of the lid,” Gemma Hickey, an environmentalist based in Western Australia, told The Dodo. “It trapped his tongue and lower beak. He tried to eat by flicking food into his mouth but couldn’t get it to stay there long enough to get it down. The same with water.” Luckily for the…
