According to The Fresno Bee, a dairy factory farm worker was arrested last Friday on suspicion of animal abuse.
A dairy supervisor told authorities he saw the employee on surveillance video hitting a cow with a metal pipe.
The tapes show Pablo Carcamo hitting the cow as she was being loaded into the milking station. Authorities booked the worker on charges of animal abuse. Carcamo’s bail is set at $50,000 and he will face a judge Tuesday.
Unfortunately, abuse like this is all too common on factory farms. Mercy For Animals has conducted more than 50 undercover investigations on farms across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and every single time we’ve uncovered horrific animal cruelty.
In May 2014, an MFA undercover video exposed workers at Chilliwack Cattle Sales—Canada’s largest dairy factory farm—beating, kicking, and punching animals; using chains and tractors to hoist cows into the air; poking and squeezing festering wounds; and punching bulls in the testicles.
This investigation led to a total of 20 animal cruelty charges against the factory farm and its owners. The charges led to convictions. The factory farm pled guilty to three counts of animal cruelty. One of its owners, Wesley Kooyman, pled guilty to one count. The company and Kooyman were sentenced to the maximum monetary penalty allowable by law—a fine of $75,000 per count. Kooyman is also prohibited from owning animals and having any control over the factory farm for one year.
In 2016, an MFA undercover investigation into Perdue Farms in North Carolina exposed workers kicking and throwing chickens and violently stomping them to death. Employee Danny Miranda pled guilty to three counts of criminal animal cruelty.

While these convictions send a clear message that animal abuse will not be tolerated, ultimately, the best way to protect cows and other farmed animals from needless suffering is to leave meat, eggs, and dairy off your plate.
