By The Rain Forest Site At just three and a half years old, she was taken from her mother and sold to work carrying tourists. She suffered under a training regimen meant to break her spirit and make her easier to work with. After a long fight, 85 percent of the Great Bear Rain forest, part of the world’s largest coastal temperate rain-forest, is now off-limits to loggers. A rare species of bear, sacred to First Nations peoples, now has a permanent home among huge cedar trees, complex networks of fjords, and 21 million acres of pristine forest. The landmark agreement includes a partnership between First Nations peoples and logging companies in British Columbia, Canada. Instead of a pure conservation pact, logging companies can harvest trees in certain sections of the Great Bear Rain-forest. However, these companies must do so in a sustainable, ecological way. A Zoo Flamingo Had To Be Euthanized After A Man Allegedly Attacked Her
Pinky, a 19-year-old Chilean flamingo at Busch Gardens Tampa, in Florida, had to be euthanized on Tuesday after a park visitor allegedly picked her up and threw her to the ground. Karen Varga-Sinka, a Busch Gardens Tampa representative, told BuzzFeed News the flamingo “was immediately transported to the park’s Animal Care Center where veterinarians made the decision to humanely euthanize her based on the severity of her injuries.” The suspect was identified as Joseph Anthony Corrao, a 45-year-old from Orlando, Florida, who was visiting the park with his family.
