One of the Lions was on the ladder, while the other two were standing below (the one next to the trainer then attacks him)

At that instant, a third Lion launches a savage attack on the trainer, rearing up and biting him in the neck as observing children scream in terror.

Other trainers hurried to try and help Shaheen, lying destitute on the ground, by poking the Lion with sticks.

The Lion reared up and attacked the trainer as shocked children in the audience screamed

Mohammed Mustafa, the circus spokesperson, said the attack occurred as the Lion was in mating season and so behaving unpredictably.

The Lion has been withdrawn from any future shows as a vet checks it over.

As the freaked audience jump to their feet screaming, the Lion tamer was pinned to the ground and gnawed in the shoulder.

Astonishingly, El-Helw was able to get up and was led to safety while another circus employee enticed the Lions back into their cages.

She suffered a hairline break to her pelvis and was rushed to hospital, but lived.
